Sangeeta Datta is a well known writer/director, independent filmmaker and cultural commentator. She is director of BAITHAK - a non-profit arts company and STORMGLASS PRODUCTIONS which is also dedicated to making meaningful cinema and theatre, drawing from narratives which have an international appeal. Her critically acclaimed work includes the award winning feature film Life Goes On ( starring Sharmila Tagore and Om Puri) and stage productions The Dying Song and Gitanjali 100.

Her published books, articles and music make her a regular presence in international film, literary and music festivals.  Trained and published in Tagore music, she is currently working on Anant: Endless, an album of Tagore translations with the legendary Javed Akhtar. Many of her past productions have been inspired by Tagore and they include:

  • Curator and host for digital chat show My Life My Art. 2020.

  • Shakespeare Adaptations International Conference Queen’s College Belfast. Delivered keynote lecture and screened feature film Life Goes On. 2020.

  • Land of Cards: director of live performance musical in collaboration with WAC Arts and Hampstead Festival. Conducted summer workshops. 2020.

  • Indian Cinema: the Journey: Curated high profile cinema event at BAFTA with Irrfan Khan, Shabana Azmi and others. 2018.

  • Rituparno Ghosh: Cinema, Gender and Art: edited book commissioned by Routledge (2015) Book launch event Jaipur Lit Fest

  • Tagore: The World as his Nest: edited book commissioned by the Institute of Development Studies. Jadavpur University 2015.

  • Co–produced play Rituparno Ghosh in Calcutta, India, 2014. Written and Directed by Raakesh Ghosh.

  • Gitanjali 100 (to mark Tagore's Nobel centenary and currently touring) 2013-14.

  • The Wife's Letter (dance -film project premiered for Dance UK) 2008.
